Holycross 'B' 2 - Rearcross 'B' 2

Rearcross ‘B’ were on their travels to Glenbane last Sunday to take on Third Division League leaders and played out a two all draw against the home side. Holycross showed strongly early on hitting the crossbar with just two minutes gone and then shot wide with a good effort seven minutes later. Rearcross keeper Jim Caplis was called in to action with a good save before a Gary Ryan solo run on 17 minutes forced a corner kick, the visitors kept the momentum going and hit the front in the 19th minute when Sean Kennedy passed to John Ryan Luke who pinged a long ball to the in running PJ McLouglin who finished with aplomb. It was all Rea at this stage and Sean Kennedy was in the action again with a clinical pass to PJ McLoughlin who shot brilliantly over the kepper to make it two nil. Holycross re-grouped and forced a good chance through a corner kick on the half hour mark. Sean Kennedy linked up with Gary Ryan nine minutes before the break with the latter not far away. John Ryan Luke’s free kick fell to Sean Hickey who shot over and then Sean Hickey was in the action at the other end after clearing off the line. Rearcross got off to the worst possible start in the second half after conceding an equalizer when the ball was deflected between the posts two minutes in. It was end to end after this, a good move involving John Ryan Luke and Gary Ryan saw PJ McLoughlin fire just wide of the mark while Jim Caplis was sprung in to action with a smart save on 69 minutes to keep Rearcross in the tie. The Rea boys nearly got back in front ten minutes from time after Leo Ryan slotted the ball to PJ McLoughlin who rounded his marker and was unlucky to see his effort barely off target, Holycross then came close to snatching the win on 86 minutes only for Jim Caplis to reflex and turn the ball on to the cross before blocking the rebound on the line to leave it all square at the full time whistle. Thomas Kennedy and his charges will be happy enough to have secured a share of the spoils in a game that could have gone either way on the day.
