Roscrea United 0 - Rearcross 'A' 3

Rearcross travelled to Kennedy Park in Roscrea on Sunday for a Tipperary Cup fixture with their league rivals Roscrea United. In what was far from ideal conditions for football, it was Rearcross who started the stronger and took the lead in the 20th minute when James Deegan cut in from the left, after good work by Kieran Devitt, and rifled a shot to the top of the net leaving the Roscrea net minder no chance. Rearcross were thriving at this stage and came close to doubling their advantage when Greg Kennedys well struck free kick was clawed away by the goalkeeper. As half time was approaching, Rearcross were looking for the 2nd goal cushion to take with them into half time and it duly arrived. After good work from Davy O Toole, Michael O Gorman wriggled his way into the box and sent a low piledriver past the goalie to give Rearcross a well deserved 2 0 lead at half time. Roscrea came out with a renewed attitude in the 2nd half and came close to halving the deficit in the 52nd minute when their attacker rose highest to send his header off of the crossbar and over. This sprung Rearcross into life again and they came close on two occasions when Michael O Gorman found himself one on one with the keeper but couldn't find a way past the Roscrea man on these occasions. It was a relatively quiet last 20 minutes with James Deegan popping up in the 88th minute to seal the victory when he found himself one on one with the keeper and coolly slotted home. A great win for Rearcross after the long layoff since their last match and they now go on to meet the winners of Nenagh Celtic and Shannon Rangers in the next round.
