Rearcross 'B' 0 - Ballymackey 'B' 1
Rearcross 'B' bowed out of the Third Division Cup last Sunday morning in Rearcross on a slender one nil score line against Ballymackey ‘B’. The Rearcross Quarries sponsored side were fast out of the traps and were denied inside the opening minute when claims for a penalty went unheard after PJ McLoughlin was checked inside the box. The hosts kept the pressure on and a well struck shot from Liam Nolan flew just wide while at the opposite end Ballymackey weren’t far off with a good strike. PJ McLoughlin was in the action again on 16 minutes with an effort that was narrowly wide. The Ballinree outfit upped the ante after this and the crossbar came to the rescue for Rea when the ball looked destined for the net with 22 minutes gone. It was more or less all Ballymackey after this to the half time whistle with Jim Caplist to the fore with successive saves either side of the half hour mark and then two well struck shots flew over the Rearcross bar to leave it still scoreless at the half time whistle. Full credit to a gallant Rearcross team that battled gallantly throughout and almost opened their account when Sean Hickey got on the end of John Ryan Luke’s delivery with the resulting header inches over. The Third Division aspirants came close again on the 53rd when a cross was flicked wide of the Rearcross post, however the all important goal came two minutes later after a cross in to box was finished from close range. Rearcross gave it their all to get back on par and breached the visiting defence after PJ McLoughlin linked up with Andy Ryan who was unlucky not to find the net. The home team looked to be back in the tie with eight minutes to play when Liam Nolan’s shot was knocked on to the woodwork by Joey Nolan, however it was not to be on this occasion. Jim Caplis was in the action again four minutes from time with a superb save to cap off a fine individual display but it wasn’t enough on the day to secure passage for the Slieve Felim side.
