Ballymackey 'A' 2 - Rearcross 'A' 1

Rearcross A travelled to Ballymackey on Sunday for a league clash. With only 5 points separating 2nd place from bottom of the table, it is very possible for all the teams in these positions to both get promoted or face the dreaded drop. Rearcross were missing a number of regulars due to work and injuries but still started with a strong team. Rearcross started the brighter and were putting Ballymackey under a lot of pressure but it was the home side that took the lead against the run of play with the Ballymackey attacker finishing to the bottom corner after some confusion in the Rearcross box. Rearcross regrouped quickly though and kept Ballymackey under pressure and went agonisingly close to levelling the tie after half an hour. Declan O Toole wriggled his way past the defence before sending an excellent ball across the goal which hit the post and then the crossbar before being cleared and Rearcross entered the break a goal down. Rearcross kept up the pressure at the start of the second half and were rewarded for their efforts after 15 minutes when Davy O Toole was felled in the box and Michael O Gorman swept home the resultant spot kick. Instaed of Rearcross pushing on from here the goal seemed to have the opposite affect and found themselves 2 1 down 10 minutes later when Ballymackey scored a lovely struck free kick from outside the box. Rearcross tried and tried after this but to no avail and the game finished 2 1 to the home side. Next up for Rearcross is a Tipperary Cup tie with Premier League high fliers Nenagh Celtic.
