Rearcross 'B' 2- Clodiagh Rangers 'B' 2
Rearcross ‘B’ came from 2-0 down to earn a share of the spoils against Clodiagh Rangers ‘B’ at Rearcross FC Grounds on Friday evening. The hosts made a bright start and came close after three minutes when good approach play by Gary McMahon and Diarmuid Sheehy saw Liam Nolan (B) drill wide. Gary McMahon then came close four minutes later after getting on the end of a Darren Quigley cross. The Drombane side enjoyed the better of the exchanges after this with Jim Caplis to the fore to the keep the scoreline intact. A counter attack saw the visiting custodian save from Sean Kennedy on 32 minutes, PJ McLoughlin shot wide before the post came to the rescue for the Rea boys in the 42nd minute to leave it scoreless at the break. Leo Ryan wasn’t far away with a headed effort three minutes in to the second period, however the visitors hit the front on 56 minutes through Matt Ryan and then doubled their tally two minutes later when Matt Stapleton tucked the ball inside the upright with a good finish. Rearcross upped the ante after this but were finding it difficult to breakdown a stubborn Clodiagh Rangers rearguard. Rearcross keeper Jim Caplis had to be alert to save with fifteen minutes remaining. The hosts were piling on the pressure towards the end of the tie and pegged a goal back ten minutes from time when PJ McLoughlin netted following a Joey Nolan assist. It was all square two minutes from time when Sean Kennedy latched on to a Joey Nolan free kick to finish between the posts from close range. Rearcross might have snatched all three points when PJ McLoughlin broke through the centre, but was luckless to see his effort drag wide. The Thomas Kennedy managed outfit will be happy to have salvaged a point when it looked as if a defeat was on the cards and will now look forward to their next outing.
