Ardcroney 0 - Rearcross 'A' 1

Rearcross were on their travels again in the league as they made the journey to Ardcroney on Friday evening last for an early 7pm kick off. Rearcross welcomed captain Greg Kennedy back from a brief hiatus in Australia along with Mark Hogan who was recovering from a strain. The game started at a helter skelter pace and it was Rearcross who were doing all the pressing but didnt trouble the goalkeeper with a few speculative shots from outside the box. Rearcross's first clear cut chance came in the 25th minute when great work from Tommy Lyons saw him float a wonderful ball to the back post where Liam Ryan was desperately unlucky to see his header go past the post and wide. Rearcross had another good opportunity when a shot from Davy O Toole clipped off the crossbar but came at the in rushing Kieran Devitt too fast and he couldn't steer the ball home.Rearcross were doing all the pressing at this stage but Ardcroney nearly took the lead near the end of the half when their attacker got on the end of a long ball and sent a looping header over Jim Caplis who somehow managed to back track and get a hand to the ball to tip it over the bar. The second half started much like the first with Rearcross doing a lot of the pressing but needing to be careful not to be caught on the counter attack from a decent Ardcroney side. Rearcross thought they were about to get the breakthough whne good work from Kieran Devitt and Michael O Gorman saw the ball break inside the box to James Deegan who tried his best to direct his header on target but it drifted agonisingly over the bar. Rearcross did finally get the all important breakthrough in the 80th minute when some good work from the Rearcross midfield saw the ball break to Michael O gorman inside the box who made no mistake by rifling the ball into the top corner past the hapless Ardcroney goalkeeper. Rearcross regrouped after this and defended excellently for the next 10 plus minutes to grind out a huge 3 points. Rearcross A have started the league campaign in excellent form and have 3 wins from league games having not conceded a league goal in nearly 5 hours of football. Lets all hope that Rea can really kick on from here and will be challenging for silverware come the end of the season.
