Rearcross 'A' 1 - Portumna 3
Rearcross welcomed fellow title challengers portumna town to Rearcross on Sunday last for a Munster Junior Cup clash. Rearcross, missing a number of players for various reasons, struggled to get into the game early on and it was portumna who were doing all the pressing but the Rearcross rearguard stood strong. It was Rearcross who took the lead on 25 minutes when Greg Kennedy was the first one to react to a scramble in the box and sent a blazing shot into the bottom corner. Rearcross's lead was short lived however as Portumna equalised when a long range free deflected off a luckless Rearcross playerand past Jim Caplis in the Rea goal. Portumna took the lead in the 40th minute when another long range ball found the Portumna striker free in the box and he coolly slotted the ball to the corner of the net. Things got worse for Rearcross 5 minutes into the second half when Portumna made it 3 1 from the penalty spot. rearcross tried hard after this but never really created any clear cut chances and the game finished 3 1. Rearcross must regroup now and focus on the league where they find themselves top of the table with 2 games in hand over their closest challengers.
