Gurtagarry 5 - Rearcross 'B' 1

Rearcross ‘B’ travelled to Gurtagarry with a tough task ahead of them in this Cup fixture. Rearcross got in the first attack with Diarmuid Sheehy shooting wide. Gurtagarry responded with a free which Joey Nolan saved and another shot 3 mins later which went just wide. The home side broke the deadlock on 18mins when a move down the right was crossed in and finished to the net. Rearcross responded with an attack forcing a corner but went wide as a result. Gurtagarry went 2 up after 25 min and Joey Nolan had to make a save to keep it at 2. Rearcross picked it up a notch and PJ McLoughlin shot wide from receiving a pass from Liam Nolan. Gary Ryan had a shot on target but was saved by the keeper. Rearcross forced a corner with Sean Kennedy heading wide. Rearcross got back into the game when PJ McLoughlin headed to the net from a Liam Nolan(B) free. Gary Ryan got himself in a great position just before half time but couldn’t find the net with the keeper saving his shot. The second half started with Rearcross under pressure from a Gurtagarry attack. Things got worse for the visitors with Liam Nolan(B) was  withdrawn with an injury and Sean Kennedy dismissed for a second yellow. Rearcross now defending as best they could but were un done when Gurtagarry added a third with 20 mins to go. The visitors didn’t give up with Gary Ryan, Mark Hogan and Joey Nolan getting shots on target from frees won outside the home side penalty area. PJ McLoughlin came closest when let fly from inside the box with his shot just whizzing past the post. Gurtagarry scored two more in the last five minutes, one was a wayward cross that dipped in over the keeper and the last was scored in the last minute despite the heroic efforts of Liam Ryan and Martin McLoughlin. The Rearcross side gave it their all on the day and couldn’t be faulted for effort, finished 5-1
