Shield Title for Rearcross
Rearcross 'A' 3 - Birdhill 2
Rearcross 'A' annexed the First Division Shield with a well deserved 3-2 victory over Birdhill last Sunday at a rain drenched Loughtagalla Park, Thurles. Rearcross played poorly in the opening period and were duly punished in the 20th minute when Paul Coleman finished to the net after a poor defending by Rearcross. The Birdhill keeper denied Rearcross the equaliser in the 37th minute when he saved well from a Micheal O'Doherty effort after a good through ball by Emmet Steed. Some stern words from manager Pat Deegan at half time paid off when Rearcross rattled the Birdhill outfit with three goals in the first nine minutes of the second half. Micheal O'Doherty grabbed the equaliser the 46th minute when he slotted home from inside the eighteen yard box. Rearcross took the lead in the 53rd minute when Noel Deegan scored a well struck penalty after Micheal O'Doherty was upended in the box by a Birdhill defender. Rearcross went 3-1 ahead in the 54th minute when Micheal O'Doherty scored his second goal from an acute angle. Birdhill were given a lifeline in the 75th minute when Birdhill were awarded a dubious penalty which was converted by John Meskell. Birdhill pushed forward in search of their first victory against Rearcross from five encounters this season, however Rearcross held firm until the final whistle.
