Rearcross U-11's 2 - Lough Derg 'B' 1

Lough Derg travelled to Rearcross on Saturday morning to play Rearcross in the first round of the U11 Cup. The prize for winning the tie would be an away fixture to premier division contendors Nenagh AFC ‘A’. The game started at a lively pace with free flowing football particularly from the home side. The midfield trio for Rearcross of Aaron McMahon, Conor Nolan and Sam Wilkins began to dominate proceedings however the few chances that were created were not converted. Lough Derg were happy to survive the first half with sides still level. The second half saw little difference with chances squandered by both sides. Lough Derg began to adjust to the pace of the game but when the final whistle was heard the sides were still deadlocked.

Extra time ensued and it was not long before Rearcross were justly rewarded for their efforts when a mix up in the Lough Derg defence allowed Conor Nolan to find the net midway through the first half. Rearcross continued to play well in the second half but despite their dominance very few chances were created to trouble the visiting goalkeeper. However with 6 minutes remaining Conor Nolan had the confidence to strike from distance allowing the Lough Derg keeper no chance of keeping the ball from hitting the net. It started to look good for Rearcross at this point but Lough Derg had different intentions and when the home side’s defence were caught cold with minutes remaining following a Lough Derg corner the ball ended up in the net pf Pat Carroll’s goal. The home side had to battle hard in the remaining minutes to keep their advantage as Lough Derg tried their best to find the all important equaliser. Thankfully Rearcross managed to hold out and are now looking forward to the quarter finals.

Rearcross U-11's: Pat Carroll, James Rochford, Adam Hurley, Trudie Hurley, Aaron McMahon, Conor Nolan, Sam Wilkins, Grace O’Toole, Aoife Nolan, Lauren Mulligan.
