Rearcross U-12's 2 - Cloughjordan 2

A depleted Rearcross U-12 outfit turned in a highly spirited performance against Cloughjordan to grind out a two all result in this league tie played at Rearcross FC Grounds on Saturday afternoon, however the home side will rue not making better use of chances created but were also denied by some fine goalkeeping from the visiting custodian Zack Dervan. Rearcross made a blistering start and could have been three nil up inside the opening five minutes with efforts from Stephen Rochford, Patrick Dawson and Eoin O'Connell. The Rea boys kept the pressure on and Patrick Dawson forced a fine save out of the Cloughjordan number 1 who reflexed to turn the ball over the bar. Reacross got the breakthough on the nine minute mark when Colm Lenihan broke through the centre before finishing to the back of the net with a low finish. The visitors upped the ante as the half wore on and came close with a long range effort from Nathan Lynch which wasn't far away. It was proving to be a difficult outing for the home side who threatening again through Patrick Dawson and Eoin O'Connell, but both were denied by the visiting keeper. Cloughjordan equalized against the run of play when a move on the left saw Cathal Kennedy get down well to make a one handed save, however David O'Sullivan knocked home from close range. Rearcross defended well throughout as Sean Malone came to the rescue in the dying moments of the opening half with a well timed challenge to avert the danger. Rearcross made a bright start to the second half as Cillian Kennedy came close with a good effort and then the hosts should have restored their lead following a goalmouth scramble. Cloughjordan edged ahead fifteen minutes in to the second half when David O'Sullivan found space to drill a low effort past Cathal Kennedy. Full credit to a Rearcross nine who gave a wholehearted performance throughout and bagged a deserved equalizer with twelve minutes remaining when Patrick Dawson advanced on the left before unleashing a low effort across the face of the goal where Eoin O'Connell made first time contact to ram the ball to the roof of the net. The green & whites pushed on in search of the winner and came close with efforts from Cillian Kennedy and Patrick Dawson, however the Cloughjordan keeper continued to thwart the home side with some fine goalkeeping to leave it stalemate at the full time whistle.
