Shinrone 1 - Rearcross 'A' 3
Rearcross 'A' made the journey to Shinrone last Sunday for this league encounter
and emerged victorious with 3-1 win against the home side. Rearcross made
a brisk start to this game despite a strong cross field wind and nearly edged
ahead in the 3rd minute when Paul Murphy's strike was flicked out for a corner
by an agile David Ormond in the Shinrone goals. Rearcross took the lead on
nine minutes when Derek O'Toole drilled the ball to the right of the keeper
after a well executed pass from Joe O'Brien. The Shinrone keeper reacted well
and saved Joey Nolan's sixteen yard strike in the 12th minute. Shinrone counter
attacked and produced a good passing movement on the right, however the Rearcross
defence cancelled the move and cleared the ball to safety. The Shinrone netminder
came to the rescue again in the 19th minute with a point blank save from Emmet
Steed. A move started in the middle of the field found Shinrone's Shane Hoctor
on the left in the 29th minute, however the resulting shot was left of the
upright, Rearcross should have gone two nil ahead in the 38th minute, however
the ball somehow managed to stay out after three successive attempts on goal.
Shinrone finished the half strongly and Oliver Kennedy had to be alert to
tap over a well struck free kick three minutes before the break. Shinrone
might have levelled three minutes in to the second half when a well delivered
cross from the right floated menacingly across the box. Paul Murphy's shot
in the 53rd spun inches wide of the upright. Joey Nolan eventually gave Rearcross
some breathing space in the 58th minute when he got on the end of Paul Murphy's
delivery from the right and booted to the net from the edge of the six yard
box. Joe O'Brien released Joey Nolan from inside his own half with a fine
pass in the 67th minute, again the Shinrone keeper advance and averted the
danger. The Shinrone keeper was having a blinder and denied Emmet Steed with
a fine reflex save three minutes later. Emmet Steed's first time effort from
outside the box on 73 minutes had plenty of power, however the effort was
over the crossbar. Paul Murphy tacked on goal number three with fourteen minutes
remaining when he made space on the right and drove the ball to the back of
the net from an acute angle. Shinrone's never say die attitude saw Kieran
McLoughlin pull a goal back in the 83rd minute when the ball skimmed inside
the near post, however time ran out for the home side and Rearcross claimed
maximum points despite the gallant efforts of Shinrone's David Ormond.
