Rearcross 'A' 1 - Nenagh Town 'A' 0
Rearcross 'A' turned in a gritty performance last Sunday at
Rearcross F.C. Grounds to record a slender one nil victory against Nenagh
Town 'A', the home side were fast out of the traps and made the first incision
in the 2nd minute when Sean Ryan set Derek O'Toole down the left who's left
legged effort pulled to right of the upright, Rearcross went ahead two minutes
later when good play on the right saw Liam O'Toole square to Joey Nolan who
drilled past the Nenagh Town custodian from just inside the eighteen yard
box, Rearcross were well on top after this and had a penalty claim turned
down on the fifteenth minute mark, Rearcross continued to push and came close
in the 31st minute when Joey Nolan's free kick from the edge of the box wasn't
far over. Nenagh showed strongly towards the end of the half with Shane O'Gorman
doing well to get a shot in with ten minutes remaining, a goalmouth melee
a minute later jeopardised the Rearcross lead as the ball momentarily disappeared
amongst a forest of legs, however Nenagh were adjudged to have infringed and
a free out was given. A first time volley from Nenagh's Paul Tucker had Mark
Barry back peddling in the 40th minutue, however the save was made and the
ball was parried to safety. Rearcross had the last piece of the action just
before the half time whistle when Derek O'Toole burst through the centre only
to be obstructed on the edge of the box, the resulting free kick from Sean
Ryan was well struck but drifted over the bar. Nenagh attacked in droves at
the start of the second half and Rearcross had to pull out all the stops to
stay in front, the rout started with a long range effort from Paul Tucker
in the 1st minute, then Trevor Morrissey made space to swing in the shot in
the 53rd minute, luckily for Rearcross the effort was off target. Mark Barry
showed great agility in the Rearcross goal a minute later to knock a headed
effort on to the cross bar and away from the danger zone, Nenagh kept on the
offensive and a well struck effort from Gary McCormack in the 63rd minute
was goal bound, however Mark Barry got down to make the save. Rearcross played
with heart and determination for the remainder of the game and were unlucky
not to grab a second with a minute remaining with a counter attacking move
that saw Derek O'Toole release Joey Nolan on the right who's shot was saved
at the expense of a corner kick, however it mattered little as the final whistle
sounded seconds later and the points were secured for the home side.
