Rearcross 'A' 3 - Clonmore 1
Rearcross 'A' kicked off the new season on a winning note with
a well earned 3-1 victory over Premier League debutants Clonmore in a league
fixture played at Rearcross F.C. Grounds last Sunday afternoon, the home side
made the better start and were a goal to the good in the 3rd minute when Derek
O'Toole got through and rifled to the back of the net, Rearcross extended
their lead three minutes later when the ball was forced to the net off a Clonmore
defender after good pressure by Derek O'Toole. Clonmore regrouped after this
early setback and came in to the game as the half progressed, a long range
shot was on target in the 20th minute, however the effort was blocked out
to safety. The upright denied Derek O'Toole in the 25th minute when his header
effort crashed off the metal work and out to safety after good play by Joey
Nolan on the right flank. The same upright denied the home side again five
minutes later when a move on the left released Sean Ryan who did well to get
inside his marker with the resulting shot ricocheting to safety, Clonmore
took advantage of this let off were back in the game in the 36th minute when
poor defensive play gave Brendan Guider the chance who hadn't to be asked
twice as the first time effort went straight to the top corner, Rearcross
were dominant throughout the second half against a Clonmore side that sustained
a series of injuries as the game progressed. Rearcross were given some breathing
space in the 70th minute with a third goal after Derek O'Toole made the running
on the left wing and sprayed the ball across the goal mouth to the in rushing
Davy O'Toole who tapped home at the back post, Clonmore kept the pressure
on, however the Rearcross rearguard dealt admirably with all that came their
way as Rearcross went on to secure their first win off the season.
