'A' 1 - Rearcross 'A' 1
Rearcross F.C. Rearcross 'A' travelled to Cloughjordan for
this league tie last Sunday and ended up with a share of the spoils and bitter
disappointment after the home side scored with the last kick off the game
deep in to injury time, Rearcross played against the elements in the first
half and mustered a half chance in the 3rd minute when Emmet Steed got a shot
in which pulled to left of the upright, Cloughjordan got on top after this
and forced Rearcross to defend deep in their own half, a Mark O'Leary shot
in the 11th minute flew over the Sean Sheehy's crossbar, John Ryan Luke made
a solid tackle on Mark O'Leary at the expense of a corner on 18 minutes, Rearcross
were starting to find their feet and a John Ryan Luke free kick was headed
just wide by Derek O'Toole midway through the half, the home side threatened
in the 32nd minute with a free kick outside the box, Sean Sheehy watched all
the way and got down to make a clean save, Rearcross were under pressure but
were weathering the storm with Joey Ryan and Simon Kennedy to the fore, the
home side came close with seven minutes remaining in the half when an effort
from just outside the box wasn't far over, good play from Rearcross three
minutes before the half time whistle looked to have created an opening, however
play was called back for an offside infringement, Rearcross made a promising
start to the second half and John Berkery advanced before getting a shot on
target three minutes in, however the Cloughjordan custodian read the situation
well and made the save, Rearcross were piling on the pressure at this stage
and an Emmet Steed free kick was well struck on 58 minutes, however the keeper
was positioned to save, a quickly taken free kick from Emmet Steed two minutes
later wasn't far off, the visitors were on top at this stage and Matthew Ryan
Luke was unlucky to see his headed effort from a Derek O'Toole corner drift
away from the target in the 63rd minute. Rearcross went ahead in the 69th
minute when Davy O'Toole did all the work on the left before setting up Matthew
Ryan Luke who drove to the corner of the net with the deftest of touches,
the home side came back at Rearcross after this and were denied by the upright
with six minutes remaining when a goal mouth skirmish saw the ball come back
of the upright and in to the hands of Sean Sheehy, a PJ McLoughlin corner
kick was met by Davy O'Toole in the 88th minute with the looping header barely
over the Cloughjordan crossbar, Rearcross looked like they were going to hold
out for a much needed three points, however disaster struck in the 3rd minute
of injury time when Benny Costello collected the ball in side his own half
and raced through before ramming past Sean Sheehy from the edge of the eighteen
yard box to earn a draw for his side.
