Rearcross 'A' made their maiden voyage to a highly impressive
Brickfields Grounds in Nenagh last Sunday for this league clash against Nenagh
Town 'A' and came away with a merited 4-2 victory, Rearcross coming off the
heel
of a heavy defeat the previous week were anxious to make amends and got off
to the ideal start when Derek O'Toole drove a twenty yard free to the corner
of the net in the 3rd minute, Nenagh came in to the game as the half progressed
and Trevor Morrissey's well struck free kick was over the top on 14 minutes.
Emmet Steed linked up with Derek O'Toole three minutes later, however the
Nenagh netminder advanced to avert the danger. Nenagh levelled in the 25th
minute when Shane O'Gorman delivered from the right to Darren O'Gorman whose
headed effort was cleared off the goal line, however the reprieve was short
lived as the ball broke to Eoin Quirke who
drilled inside the far upright. Rearcross came back at Nenagh and good play
saw Declan O'Toole send Shane Reynolds down the right flank who squared to
the in running Derek O'Toole who was unlucky not to keep the ball in play.
Rearcross were back in front on the half hour mark after Derek O'Toole was
through on goal only to be bundled off the ball inside the box, the infringement
saw Nenagh reduced to ten men, Declan O'Toole stepped up
and blasted the resulting penalty to the back of the net, Nenagh were on top
for the remainder of the half and Rearcross had to pull out all the stops
to stay ahead, Joey Ryan headed Trevor Morrissey's free around the post
with ten minutes remaining in the half, Nenagh then came close with a headed
effort from Martin Bouboub that was deflected out for a corner kick, Mark
Lenihan came to the rescue with two minutes remaining with a vital headed
clearance after a ball was headed for the top corner following a corner kick.
Rearcross went further ahead in the 57th minute when Derek O'Toole got between
two Nenagh defenders and knocked to the net from an acute angle, Nenagh kept
battling and Trevor Morrissey's shot was on target five minutes later, however
Mark Barry was well positioned to tap over the bar. Rearcross sealed the points
with three minutes remaining when PJ McLoughlin got on the end of Derek O'Toole's
corner kick and flicked to the net at the near post. A speedy recovery to
Nenagh's Kieran Duffy, who sustained a leg injury in the second half.
