Rearcross 'B' 3 - Kilcommon 'B' 3

Rearcross B played host to their local rivals Kilcommon B last Wednesday evening and were very fortunate to emerge with a share of the spoils after a 3-3 draw. It was an open game throughout with chances falling to both teams and it was the visitors who took a somewhat auspicious lead midway though the first half. A shot from outside the area seemed to have been covered by Jim Caplis but the wet ball managed to creep under his body and into the net. Rearcross drew level almost immediately when Emmet Steed was well positioned to finish off a flowing passing move. Rearcross had the better share of the possession after this but failed to go in front despite good efforts from Michael O’Gorman and Emmet Steed. Kilcommon got the third goal of the game on the hour mark.  A long ball into the heart of the Rearcross defence caused confusion and Kilcommon were quick to capitalise on the loose ball to go back in front. Again Rearcross responded well and it was all square once more 10 minutes later when Matthew Ryan (L) powered his way into the Kilcommon penalty box and finished to the roof of the net from close range. All this good work was undone on 80 minutes when the Rearcross defence failed to clear a dangerous cross sent across the face of their goal and the ball fell to the Kilcommon striker who made no mistake from 6 yards out. Rearcross threw all that they had a Kilcommon in the remaining minutes and forced an equaliser when with the last kick of the game PJ Mcloughlin poked the ball home after a goal mouth scramble. The game finished with Rearcross relieved yet disappointed with a draw.
