Arra Rovers 0 - Rearcross 'A' 2
Rearcross 'A' trekked to Portroe last Sunday morning for this Premier Division League fixture against Arra Rovers and had to battle all the way to take the three points. Rearcross made a lively start and took the lead when Derek O'Toole was the provider to Eamon Gleeson who raced through and knocked the ball to the net from close range. Arra worked their way back in to the game after this and came close with a Brian Quinn effort on eighteen minutes. James Gough was unlucky not to extend the Rearcross lead with sixteen minutes remaining in the half with a headed effort. Martin McLoughlin's tackle was well timed two minutes later and it needed to be to thwart a dangerous Arra attack. Eamon Gleeson robbed the Arra custodian and fired on target four minutes before the break, however Anthony Freeman got back to clear off the line.
Arra came out with all guns blazing in the second half and Rearcross had to soak early pressure, Rearcross keeper Sean Sheehy was very much to the fore making two fine saves in the opening ten minutes. Brian Quinn threatened again for the Portroe side on twelve minutes, however Derek O'Toole snuffed out the danger. The game was in the melting pot after this as Arra pushed hard for the equaliser, Brian Quinn raced through the centre with eleven minutes remaining, however Sean Sheehy advanced and made a fine body save with claims for a penalty from the home side going unheard. The visitors doubled their advantage with eight minutes remaining when Derek O'Toole lobbed the keeper for a well taken goal. The woodwork denied Rearcross five minutes later when PJ McLoughlin's well struck shot clipped the crossbar, however it mattered little as Rearcross had done enough on the day to secure a much needed win.
