Rearcross 'B' 5 - Clodiagh Rangers 'B' 1
Rearcross B made a welcome return to winning ways last Saturday evening with a deserved 5-1 home victory over Clodiagh Rangers B. Rearcross were on top from the start and almost opened the scoring with good efforts from Tommy Ryan (L) and Liam Ryan early on. They took a fairly fortuitous lead on 15 minutes when Nigel Ryan intercepted a quick free kick and put Adrian Hurley in the clear. He kept his composure to round the keeper and finish to the empty net to put Rearcross ahead. Rearcross almost doubled their advantage 10 minutes later when a good passing saw Liam Ryan find space at the edge of the Clodiagh penalty area. He attempted to chip the keeper but an outstretched hand tipped the ball the ball over the bar. The hosts were not to be denied and Shane Reynolds rose highest at the back post to head the resulting corner home. Rearcross went 3-0 up 5 minutes later when a Nigel Ryan free kick crashed off the cross bar. There were shouts that the ball had crossed the line but in any case Davy Ryan (L) was on hand to force the rebound to the net. Rearcross took their foot off the pedal and allowed Clodiagh back into the game. Sean Sheehy made 2 fine saves to deny the visitors before the concession of an own goal from a corner kick saw Clodiagh get off the mark. Rearcross responded well to this setback and took control once more. They had to wait until the 65th minute before the fourth goal came. Good play down the right wing saw Nigel Ryan played in behind the Clodiagh defence. He squared the ball for the inrushing Michael O’Gorman to blast home at the back post. The game was over as a contest after this and an excellent shot from Brian Sheehy nearly put Rearcross further ahead on 70 minutes however, the Clodiagh custodian made a fine save. Rearcross grabbed a fifth with 5 minutes remaining when Larry McLoughlin capitalised on a poor kick out and released a peach of a shot from 35 yards that went in off the foot of the post to add gloss to the scoreboard.
