Toomevara 6 - Rearcross 'A' 3
Rearcross 'A' travelled to Toomevara for this Premier Division league game against the home side and were on the receiving end of a 6-3 drubbing. Rearcross made a promising start to this game dominating the early exchanges, however it was the home side that created the opening chance in the fourth minute, however Rearcross keeper Sean Sheehy did well to save on the goal line. Rearcross counter attacked and Liam Ryan swung in the delivery from the left with Eamon Gleeson's headed effort clipping the top of the woodwork. Rearcross took the lead on eight minute when Derek O'Toole planted a smashing free kick in the top corner of the net. Rearcross were applying all the pressure at this stage and the visitors went two nil ahead on the 14th minute mark when a Derek O'Toole free kick was headed to the back of the net by a luckless Francis Devaney. Toomevara upped the ante after this winning two successive corners and Sean Sheehy had to be sharp to smother the ball after the ball broke from the second delivery. Toomevara had claims for a penalty turned down on 28th minute, however the home side were awarded the penalty following a clumsy tackle a minute later. Thomas Sheppard made no mistake from the spot to bring Toomevara back in to the game. Eamon Gleeson delivered the ball in to the danger area two minutes, however the Toomevara defence got back to clear off the line. The home side made a strong finish to the half and snatched an equaliser with ten minutes remaining when the ball was splayed across the goal mouth and it was Niall McCormack who slid in at the back post to force the ball to the back of the net to leaves the sides tied on two goals a piece at the break. Rearcross were still in the game at the start of the second half and should have gone back in front eight minutes in to the half when Eamon Gleeson found Liam Ryan in space in front of goal, however the ball bobbled and the chance went a begging. This proved to be somewhat of a turning point as Rearcross capitulated after this as Toomevara turned on the heat with Sean Sheehy doing well under the high ball throughout. Toomevara took the lead with twenty minutes remaining when the ball came back of the crossbar following a goal mouth skirmish and it was Roy Darcy who was on hand to head the ball home from close range. The lead was extended two minutes later when Matty Ryan's first time effort from the edge of the box was just inside the upright. It was all Toomevara at this stage and Francis Devaney made amends with a fine finish from outside the box with eleven minutes remaining to put the home side 5-3 in front. Matty Ryan then got in for his second of the day two minutes later after scooping the ball to the corner of the net from close range. Eamon Devitt got behind the Toomevara defence on 38 minutes to slice the ball between the posts in what was a consolation goal for a Rearcross side that turned in a below par performance, however credit to Toomevara who were full value for their win on the day.
