Rearcross 'B' 0 - Cappamore 4

Cappamore Celtic were the opposition for a new look Rearcross B side in the opening round of the Ann Kennedy tournament last Tuesday evening. The opening half was even and entertaining affair as both sides tried to get back into the swing of things and Rearcross more than held their own against the neighbours from across the border. However, the lack of match practice was evident in the final third was both sides struggled to create clear cut chances. Cappamore looked the more likely to score as Michael FitzGerald and Andy Murphy were causing a lot of trouble for the Rearcross rearguard with Jim Caplis having to prove his worth more than once. But Rearcross remained resolute and the sides were still all square at the half time break.
Cappamore took the lead just after the break when a free kick deep into the Rearcross penalty area was only half cleared and Andy Murphy was clinical with his volley from the edge of the area leaving Jim Caplis with no hope. The home side rung the changes not long after this and it did not take Cappamore long to capitalise on this as Andy Murphy got in behind the defence to grab his second of the day. Rearcross were at sixes and sevens at this stage as Andy Murphy’s pace saw him break the offside trap once more as the Bilboa man rounded off his hat trick. A fourth goal for the visitors in the final minutes put unwarranted gloss on the scoreboard as Rearcross B made an immediate exit from their home tournament.
