Nenagh AFC 'A' 8 - Rearcross 1
The score line speaks for itself in this one sided Premier Division League game played at the Islandbawn venue on Sunday against Nenagh AFC 'A', Rearcross fielding a depleted side made a positive enough start and threatened three minutes in when Matthhew Ryan Luke's shot was on target but was blocked down. Nenagh counter attacked and Rearcross keeper Sean Sheehy was called in to action early with a smart save at the near post. Rearcross took the lead on eight minutes when John Ryan Luke got on the end of Andy Murphy's corner kick before heading downwards and over the line at the back post. Nenagh had claims for a penalty denied on twelve minutes. Michael O'Gorman was unlucky to see his headed effort drift over the Nenagh cross bar in the 14th minute. Nenagh hit the visitors for four quick fire goals in the final third of the half, the first coming on the hour mark when Willie Darcy connected with a cross from the right. Craig Connolly made it two nil six minutes later with a headed effort from in front of goal. It was 3-1 in the 38th minute when Craig Connolly grabbed his second of the day after the ball broke from a corner kick. Rearcross might have pulled a goal back two minutes before the half time whistle after Andy Murphy released Liam Ryan however the effort pulled wide of the post. Nenagh took full advantage and extended their lead to 4-1 seconds later when Craig Connolly pounced to complete his hat trick and leave Rearcross with an uphill battle in the second half. The visitors did the early attacking in the second half despite the score line with Michael O'Gorman coming close. Nenagh started to get on top again and a John O'Gorman pile driver wasn't far away from the Rearcross goal in the 53rd minute. Nigel Ryan's free kick might have been over the line on 62 minutes, however the referee waved play on. In any event, it is doubtful that a goal would have aided the visitors cause at that stage. Nenagh took over after this and ran out comfortable winners with further goals from Willie Darcy, Thomas Sheppard and a brace from Michael O'Gorman.
