Rearcross 'A' 2 - Moneygall 'A' 0

Rearcross welcomed Moneygall to Rearcross on Monday evening last for a 1st round Premier Cup match. This was an eagerly awaited tie as the winners would advance to a home quarter final clash with Nenagh Celtic. Rearcross started the brighter and went ahead on 15 minutes when the ball broke to Greg Kennedy who sent in a piledriver from the edge of the box which was too hot for the Moneygall keeper to handle. Rearcross doubled their lead in the 25th minute when Liam O'Toole played the ball into older brother Derek who in turn did brilliantly to turn away from his man vefore send a curling shot to the top right hand corner of the net. Rearcross kept applying the pressure after this and were unlucky not to go further ahead. Moneygall started to come back into the game towards the end of the half but were denied due to a combination of good defending and good goalkeeping. Moneygall got a lifeline when they were awarded a penalty five minutes into the second half when a Rearcross defender handled in the box. Moneygall failed to capitalise though when the resultant kick was drove wide. Rearcross regained the upper hand after this and should have tacked on another couple of goals but it wasn't to be and Rearcross ran out comfortable wineers on a 2 0 scoreline.
