An understrength Rearcross side travelled to Cahir on Monday afternoon for a Joe Delaney Cup quarter final game against Cahir Park Youths and turned in a gutsy performance before succumbing to a five nil defeat. The opening exchanges were evenly shared as David Finnane drove wide of Darragh Ryan Luke's goal two minutes in and then Rearcross came close with a Darragh Kennedy effort from a tight angle which wasn't far away two minutes later. Darragh Ryan Luke turned in a fine display throughout and advanced to save at the feet of Anthony Condon in the 8th minute and was in the action again a minute later with a one handed save from a deflected shot at the expense of a corner kick. Cahir Park had claims for a penalty waved on following a handball infringement before Darragh Ryan Luke came to the rescue for the NT&DL side with another reflex save. Rearcross came close on 27 minutes when Brian Carey linked up with John Shanahan who struck first time with a fine effort, however Woijek Cymfrys in the Cahir Park goals was positioned to save. Cahir Park took the lead eight minutes before the break when Darren McGrath scored with a low drive to the corner of the net. Ian Flannery followed up a minute later with a thunderbolt shot which thumped off the visitor's crossbar. The hosts took a two nil lead to the break when Patrick Kenneally got on the end of a cross from the right to finish to the net. Cahir Park took up the running again in the second half and extended their lead on 48 minutes after Barry Cooney paced through the centre to finish past Darragh Ryan Luke. Rearcross fell further behind five minutes later when Patrick Kenneally got on the end of a corner kick to head home. The green & whites didn't give up and Brian Carey fired wide with a good effort. Darragh Ryan Luke was in the action again on 23 minutes with a moment of superb goalkeeping that produced a treble save to deny Cahir Park. William Dunne copper fastened the win for Cahir Park six minutes from time with a close range finish to set up a semi-final pairing against Nenagh AFC. Our thanks to Cahir Park for their agreement to switch the game to Monday afternoon.

The Bank Holiday Monday trip to Cahir brought the curtain down on the 2012/2013 Youths campaign and whilst the League title escaped our grasp in somewhat extinuating circumstances, the Youths campaign overall was successful and it was great to have new Players from surrounding areas playing with the Club this season and we look forward to your further involvement at some stage in the future. Thanks also to all local Players for their effort and commitment during the season. Finally, a special word of praise and gratitude to Team Management of Declan O'Toole and Joey Nolan and also to Kieran Devitt for his later involvement.
