Streamstown 'B' 2 - Rearcross 'B' 3

Rearcross 'B' produced a top notch performance to seal a dramatic 3-2 win over Streamstown 'B' at the away venue last Sunday morning. The Rea boys fielded a bare eleven for this encounter but that didn't thwart the visiting side who attacked from the gecko and hit the front on ten minutes when former Olympian Gary Ryan paced down the left wing before turning his inside his marker and firing to the far corner of the net. Rearcross continued to press as PJ McLoughlin shot just wide. Streamstown dominated for a spell forcing a succession of corners but the Slieve Felim side defended well and then at the other Gary Ryan was unlucky not to connect with a diving header. Stalwart Thomas Kennedy was in thick of the action throughout and read the situation well to pick out Paul Ryan who headed over under pressure midway through the half. Brian Carey then flew down the left side and wasn’t far away with a good effort, Rearcross keeper Jim Caplis was fast of his line after the hosts broke through the centre to produce a superb save. The visiting side took up the running again in the second half as Brian Carey threatened again, Shane Reynolds dominance in the air helped to keep the home team at bay, Rearcross stretched their lead when Brian Carey knocked on to Gary Ryan who rounded his opponent to finish from a tight angle. Streamstown came storming back in to the game and hit the crossbar with a free kick and then narrowed the deficit minutes later with a headed goal. Rearcross were feeling the brunt of the pressure at this stage and conceded an equalizer with five minutes remaining on the clock. However, Rearcross showed great determination in the remaining minutes and forced a dramatic winner when Brian Carey and PJ McLoughlin combined to set up Tom Hickey who unleashed a pile driver which was deflected over for a corner kick, Shane Reynolds proved the match hero after prodding to the net from the resulting corner kick to clinch a thrilling victory for Rearcross. All in all a fine performance from one to eleven that paid dividends as a result of a never say die attitude, Rearcross will build on this win in the games ahead.
