Moneygall 2 - Rearcross 'A' 1
After last weeks victory over league leaders Borrisokane, Rearcross made the journey to Offaly to take on old rivals Moneygall. Rearcross started well and came close after 10 minutes when a Kieran Devitt shot whistled past the post with the wide man being unfortunate not to see the ball rocket to the net. Rearcross were dealt a sucker blow after this when they found themselves short at the back and a poor pass back from midfield was intercepted by a Moneygall attacker who squared the ball to his teammate who finished coolly past the helpless Diarmaid Sheehy in the Rearcross net. Rearcross tried hard to get back on level terms and came close through efforts from James Deegan and Davy O Toole. Rearcross came out in the second half hoping to get back into the game and did just that with 5 minutes gone in the second half when Greg Kennedy sent a beautiful free kick to the top corner of the Moneygall net leaving the Moneygall keeper with no chance. It was all Rearcross at this stage and they could have gone ahead in the 70th minute when Kieran Devitt rose highest from a James Deegan corner but unfortunately saw his header just go over the bar. Rearcross were dealt a sucker blow with 5 minutes left when a Moneygall free kick was floated into the Rearcross box with a Moneygall attacker rising unchallenged to send a looping header over Diarmaid Sheehy in the Rearcross goals. 2 1 was how it finished and Rearcross will be hoping to string a few results together to move away from the foot of the table.
