Borrisokane 'A' 1 - Rearcross 'A' 1
Due to a number of factors, a depleted Rearcross made the journey to Borrisokane last Sunday for a league fixture with the league leaders. Despite being short a number of regulars Rearcross were confident as they had recorded a home victory over the same opposition earlier in the year. Rearcross started brightly and were well on top in the opening exchanges with Michael O Gorman coming close with a free kick and Darragh Kennedy also coming close with a long range effort. Rearcross's hard work did pay off though and they took the lead on the 30 minute mark when a well struck free kick was too hot to handle for the borris keeper and Kieran Devitt reacted quickest of everyone to send the ball into the top of the net and give Rearcross a lead they deserved. It remained 1 0 for the rest of the half as Reacross looked to get in at half time 1 up. Borrisokane were a different outfit in the second half and put Rearcross under a lot of pressure without creating any clear cut chances. Liam Ryan was unlucky not to make it 2 0 to the visitors when he found himself one on one with the keeper but the keeper deflected the shot out for a corner kick. With 2 minutes remaining in normal time and Rearcross looking to have taken all 3 points, Borrisokane were awarded a penalty which was dispatched at the second time of asking by the Borrisokane player. In the 2nd minute of injury time Borrisokane were awarded another very soft penalty which saw very strong protests from the Rearcross players and management alike. Sean Sheehy was to prove to be the hero of the hour however when he saved brilliantly to his left as the follow up was missed. All in all a one all draw was the fairest result on the day. A lot of credit must be given to the Reatcross players and mangement who only 4 games ago were rooted to the bottom of the table and now find themselves in 3rd position.
