Portumna 3 - Rearcross 'A' 1
Rearcross traveled to Portumna on Sunday morning to play this eagerly anticipated league game. Portumna dominated possession for the 1st half but chances were hard to come by on both sides. Jim Caplis was alert to any half chance the home team created while Sean Sheehy was unlucky to be called back for offside when in a promising position. Half time passed with the game still scoreless. The second half started much the same but after 10 minutes Portumna were awarded a free kick deep in the Rearcross half and from the resulting cross went 1 nil up. Rearcross were having to up the ante after this but were soon picked off for another goal when the Portumna striker controlled and finished well from an acute angle. Worse was to follow soon after when the ball broke on the edge of the Rearcross box and was rifled to net by the in form Portumna striker. Credit to the away team they never gave up and pulled one back with 10 minutes to play when a fine move resulted in Greg Kennedy finishing well at the back post. The game finished 3-1 in favour of Portumna with Rearcross looking to bounce back from a first league defeat of the season when they travel to play Borroway this Sunday. Best wishes to Greg Kennedy who was on the receiving end of a nasty mouth injury towards the end of the game.
