Barry Cup Final
Rearcross 'A' 3 - Nenagh 'B' 2 (AET)

Rearcross 'A' annexed the Barry Cup last Sunday in dramatic fashion with a 3-2 victory over Nenagh 'B' in a game played at the Greyhound Stadium in Thurles. Rearcoss had to come from behind twice to overcome a determined Nenagh side to bring the Barry Cup to Rearcross for the first time. Rearcross went a goal down in the 10th minute when C. Hogan finished to the net from close range. Rearcross battled hard after this early set back and were rewarded in the 44th minute, when a Derek O'Toole cross from the left wing was finished to the net by Thomas Kennedy. Rearcross should have taken the lead early in the second half, but failed to convert chances created in front of goal. Nenagh edged ahead for the second time in the 60th minute when C. Hogan scored his second with a great strike from the edge of the eighteen yard box. Rearcross now desperate to salvage something from their second successive Barry Cup Final pushed forward in search of the equaliser, cheered on by the vocal Rearcross and Kilcommon supporters. Positional moves made by team Manager Gerry O'Toole began to pay off in the 78th minute when Noel Deegan had the ball in the net, but the goal was disallowed for an offside infringement. Rearcross equalised in the 88th minute when Sean Kennedy jumped highest to head home a spectacular goal from a Denis Kennedy corner kick, much to the delight of the large contingent of supporters. Rearcross dominated the proceedings in extra time and went ahead for the first time in the 7th minute of extra time when Ger Kennedy hit the target from close range. Rearcross had a second goal disallowed five minutes later when Ger Kennedy's effort from an Emmet Steed cross was disallowed for offside. Rearcross now had victory in sight and could have further increased their lead in extra time, but at the end of 120 minutes of football were more than happy with their 3-2 victory. The jubilation at the final whistle was palpable and was just reward for all members of the panel and management team after a long season. North Tipperary & District League official John Murphy presented the Barry Cup to Rearcross captain Diarmuid Sheehy who dedicated the Cup victory to the memory of Liam Sheehy.
