Rearcross U-12's 3 - Nenagh Town 'A' 1
Rearcross U-12's turned in the performance of the season to date to topple
Nenagh Town 'A' on a 3-1 score line in a league fixture played in Rearcross
last Saturday morning, the home side made a positive start and did the early
attacking, however it was Nenagh who made the first incision, Greg Kennedy
was alert to the situation and came off his line to save well. Rearcross,
held their own after this but had to wait until the 32nd minute for the
opener when Marc Murphy scored from the edge of the box, Nenagh regrouped
and were back on level terms just on the stroke of half time when Tommy
Heffernan got behind the Rearcross defence and slotted between the posts.
A storming second half performance saw Rearcross out play Nenagh for long
spells, Thomas Ryan put Rearcross in front when he broke from the middle
of the field and slipped the ball past an advancing keeper for a fine individual
goal, Rearcross were let off the hook minutes later when a long range effort
came back of the crossbar, Shane Lenihan displayed fine individual skill
with six minutes remaining before being upended inside the box, the resulting
penalty was then converted with aplomb by Shane Lenihan, Rearcross controlled
affairs after this and Micheal Murphy had the ball in the Nenagh net in
injury time, however play was called back for an off side infringement,
overall this was a committed team display with performances of note from
Shane Lenihan, Colm Nolan and Sean Hickey.
