Rearcross U-16's bowed out of the U16 Cup on a 4-2 score line last Saturday in Rearcross but not before putting up a good show against Premiership Division side Templemore, the visitors made the stronger start and forced two fine saves out of Jim Caplis early on, Rearcross settled as the half progressed and went ahead in the 27th minute when an attacking run on the left saw Robert Harrington bundled off the ball on the end line, Jamie Ryan rifled the resulting penalty to the back of the net. Rearcross were dictating matters at this stage and a Jamie Ryan effort was headed off the line three minutes later, Templemore pulled a goal back with three minutes remaining in the half when a corner kick was not dealt with and Shane Purcell took advantage and knocked to the net, the Rearcross response was almost instantaneous when James Gough set off Jamie Ryan two minutes later who raced through and rattled his second of the day inside the near upright. The visitors had wind advantage in the second half and got on top in the opening minutes, Jim Caplis saved well in the ninth minute to keep the score line intact, Templemore drew level in the 53rd minute when Willie O'Donoghue swung in from the right wing with the ball finishing in the far corner of the net, Rearcross were unlucky to concede a third goal three minutes when the ball broke to the visitors in the middle of the field, Stefan Leahy found an opening in the middle and drove to the back of the net from outside the area, the home side pushed forward in search of an equaliser, however Templemore broke on a counter attack and made it 4-2 with fifteen minutes remaining when Cathal Leahy was on hand to put the ball in net following a goal mouth muddle, Rearcross tried in vain to come back at Templemore, however it was not to be as the visitors progressed to the next round.
