Rearcross U-12's got their new campaign off to a flying start with a three nil victory over Birdhill in this league encounter played at the away venue, the score line in large can be attributed to some heroic defending from Shane Fahy, Sean Hickey, Paddy O'Brien and Darragh Kennedy with the able assistance of Brendan Shanahan in the Rearcross goals, the visitors took the lead in the 13th minute when a great solo effort from Niall O'Toole who ran all of thirty yards before slotting to the left of the keeper, Rearcross were two in front two minutes later with a similar run from Tommy Kennedy who was upended in the box, Tommy Kennedy then stepped up to dispatch the resulting penalty to the back of the net. Rearcross edged further ahead seven minutes in to the second half when Tommy Kennedy grabbed his second of the day with a well taken goal, Birdhill didn't throw in the towel and battled bravely to the end and were unlucky not to reduce the deficit, however Rearcross had done enough on the day to secure the win.
