Shinrone 4 - Rearcross U-14's 1
Rearcross U-14's trekked to Shinrone for an U-14 League fixture and were
defeated by a strong home side on a score line of four goals to one last
Saturday, the windy conditions detracted from the game, however it was Shinrone
who took the lead when slack defending resulted in the concession of the
opening goal, Marc Murphy then came close for Rearcross when his effort
was blocked out at the far post for a corner, a determined Shinrone tacked
on their second goal midway through the opening half and added a third just
before half time to leave Rearcross with an uphill battle. Rearcross made
a spirited start to the second half and Kieran Devitt struck low and hard,
however the Shinrone custodian was well positioned to gather. Shane Lenihan
was then denied when his effort following a fine sole run thumped off the
crossbar, it was proving to be an unlucky outing for Rearcross as Shinrone
made it four nil with a goal from the penalty spot, Rearcross grabbed a
consolation goal with ten minutes remaining when Shane Lenihan converted
from the penalty spot, Greg Kennedy thwarted the home side with a reflex
save late in the game, best for Rearcross on the day were Shane Lenihan
and Ger Grace.
