Birdhill 0 - Rearcross U-14's 3

Rearcross U14's recorded a three nil victory over Birdhill in a league fixture played in Birdhill last Saturday morning, Rearcross made a bright start and a corner inside the first five minutes saw Blane Lenihan come close with an effort that was just wide. Birdhill started to come in to the game and were denied with a strike that came of the upright on 13 minutes, this spurred Rearcross in to action and fine individual play from Shane Lenihan produced a delivery to Colm Nolan who was unlucky not to net on this occasion. Colm Nolan was again in the action minutes later when he set up Kieran Devitt who chipped the keeper to give Rearcross the lead. The vistors were applying all the pressure at this stage and went two nil in front in the 22nd minute when Ger Grace finished spectacularly with a volley from outside the box after the ball broke from a corner kick. Rearcross made the early running in the second half and extended their lead two minutes in when Colm Nolan crossed to Kieran Devitt who finished with aplomb. Credit to Birdhill who battled gallantly to get back in to the game and it took a clearance off the line from Sean Hickey to keep the home side scoreless. Birdhill continued on the attack and should have pulled one back but for Brendan Shanahan who made a fine save when the ball was destined for the bottom corner, the Rearcross net minder was again called in to action a minute later with a double save, Shane Lenihan then broke on a counter attack and had the ball in the Birdhill net, however play was called back for an offside infringement, Rearcross made a strong finish to the game with Cormac McDonnell unlucky not to add to the scoreline, Rearcross had good performances on the day from Shane Lenihan, Kieran Devitt, Colm Nolan and Ger Grace.
