Rearcross U-14s
got their league campaign off to a bad start with a four nil defeat in Ballymackey
last Saturday morning, chances were evenly shared in first half with both sides
creating scoring opportunities. Rearcross were unlucky not to take the lead after
ten minutes when good play saw Tommy Kennedy square the ball to Oliver Harte,
however the resulting shot was held by the Ballymackey keeper. It was the home
side who took the lead five minutes later when skilful play from the Ballymackey
winger saw him beat two defenders before being upended in the box. The resulting
effort left Dave Carroll with little chance in the Rearcross goal. Rearcross responded
well after this but couldn't force an equalizer. Rearcross fell further behind
12 minutes into the second half when a long range effort found the back of the
Rearcross net. The result was put beyond doubt five minutes when Rearcross were
caught on the break and conceded a third. Despite this, Rearcross still battled
on with the Ballymackey keeper pulling off a fine double save from Oliver Harte.
Rearcross were denied once again when a Donal Kennedy shot found the net only
to be ruled offside. Ballymackey sealed the victory with a fourth five minutes
from time.
