Lough Derg 'B' 2 - Rearcross U-10's 2

Rearcross made the trip to Ballina to face opponents Lough Derg on Saturday morning with the hope of adding to their good run of fortune in Division 1 of the league. Rearcross knew a big effort was required to secure the points as both sides played out a scoreless draw last September. It was Lough Derg however who started strongest putting the Rearcross defence under pressure early in the game. The visiting side weathered the early pressure well and were rewarded with the first goal in the 9th minute of the game when Philip Deegan stroke home from close range following a goalmouth scramble. Lough Derg continued to fight hard and were denied a certain goal in the 13th minute when Pat Carroll pulled off a fine save allowing Rearcross to keep the advantage at the half time whistle.

The second half started with both sides creating chances of further goals however it was Rearcross who were rewarded in the 10 minute of the second half following a cross from Conor Nolan on the right wing which found Philip Deegan to score his second of the day. Lough Derg’s never say die attitude was plain to see and 2 minutes later they had managed to reduce the deficit following a welll taken goal from Ciaran Sheedy. As the game entered its final minute, Rearcross were confident of holding out for a victory but Lough Derg had different ideas when James O’Malley scored the all important goal for the home side to leave the sides level at the final wistle.
