Rearcross U-10's 0 - Nenagh AFC 'B' 2 (aet)

Rearcross played host to the division 1 runners up, Nenagh B last Thursday evening in the second round of the cup. It was allways expected that this would be a competitive encounter and it turned out to be just that. The visiting side started well from the start but the Rearcross defence were determined not to allow any clear chances to be created. The midfield battle between the sides was tough but fair and the half time whistle saw both sides goalless.

The second half saw Rearcross getting the better of the exchanges but the Nenagh defence proved their worth as Rearcross rarely threatened the goalmouth with any clear cut chances. Nenagh created their best chance of the game with 5 minutes remaining when a long range effort deflected of Adam Hurley’s crossbar resulting in a goal kick. The warm evening took its toll on all players and when the full time whistle came both sides took a well earned rest before extra time ensued. Nenagh got off to the brightest of starts in extra time when after 3 minutes a great strike off the boot of Cian O’Brien found the net. Minutes later Rearcross suffered a further blow when Nenagh registered their second goal thereby securing their passage to the next round of the cup.

This game marked the end of another competitive season for the Rearcross U10 team and it is encouraging to see that we once again ended in a very respectful position of the division 1 league. Great credit must go to each and every member of the panel who continually displayed their commitment and pride for their team throughout a long season.
