Rearcross U-14's 2 - Birdhill 4

Rearcross u14s kicked off their 10/11 season with a useful friendly against Birdhill in Rearcross last Wednesday evening. Despite missing a number of regulars Rearcross started off brightly and were well in control throughout the opening half. They took a deserved lead when neat interplay released Gary McMahon down the right flank. His time first time cross picked out Dylan Ryan at the back post and the winger found the back of the net to put the hosts ahead against their much fancied opponents. Birdhill upped the tempo for the remainder of the half however struggled to break on a down a hard working home team. However Birdhill got a fortuitous equaliser 5 minutes before the break after Darragh Kennedy failed to hang on to a shot from distance. The home side showed resilience and regained the almost immediately. Gary O’Brien did well to initially win the ball at the edge of the area before letting fly into the far corner to give Rearcross the lead at the break.

Rearcross made a host of changes early in the second half with all subs getting a good run. Inevitably the shape of the team was effected by these changes and Birdhill piled on the pressure. However, it was midway though the half before they could break down the Rearcross defence. They took the lead moments later when they were awarded a penalty. Rearcross conceded two more goals late on to put unnecessary and undeserved gloss on the scoresheet for Birdhill.
