Rearcross U-14's 6 - Nenagh AFC 2

After the disappointment of their opening day defeat to Shinrone, Rearcross bounced back with an encouraging 6-2 victory over Nenagh Town B last Wednesday evening. However, it was the visitors who took an early lead as Rearcross were caught trying to play the ball out of defence and the Nenagh striker was left with an easy finish to out his side ahead. To their credit, Rearcross held their heads after the setback and went on to dominate the remainder of the half. The hosts created numerous chances however seemed unable to apply the required finishing touch. They deservedly drew level when an overhead kick from Patrick Carey found the corner of the net. Then they went in front almost immediately when Gary McMahon was played in behind the Nenagh defence and he kept his cool to find the back of the net. It was all credit at this stage and they pulled further ahead 5 minutes before the break when the Nenagh keeper failed to deal with a long range effort from Darragh Kennedy.

To their credit Nenagh came out fighting in the 2nd half and Rearcross were forced to defend in numbers. Despite their effort, it was Rearcross who grabbed the next goal as Patrick Carey latched onto a ball over the top. The Shanbally striker kept his composure to round the keeper and roll the ball into the empty net to put the home side 3 ahead. And Patrick rounded off his hat trick moments later with a neat finish from close range. Nenagh were beaten at this stage and could have gone further behind as Dylan Ryan and Shane Quigley came close. Gary O’Brien rounded off the scoring for Rearcross with a shot to the roof of the net with 10 minutes remaining. Nenagh scored a consolation goal at the death after the Rearcross defence failed to deal with a cross into the box.
