Rearcross U16's 3 - Killavilla 'B' 4
Rearcross U-16's made an agonising exit from the U-16 Cup last
Saturday in Rearcross on a 4-3 scoreline when a goal in the final minute of
extra time gave league leaders Killavilla 'B' a place in the quarter final.
Rearcross enjoyed the better of the early exchanges and were unlucky not to
go one up when Sean Sheehy's shot was saved by the Killavilla keeper. The
Roscrea side took the lead in the 25th minute with a goal against the run
of play. Rearcross won a penalty in the 40th minute, which was coolly slotted
home by John Berkery. Killavilla took the lead for the second time in the
50th minute with a well taken goal. Both sides then exchanged shots on target
however it was Rearcross who levelled the affair in the 61st minute when Enda
Clifford broke to score the equaliser. Colin O'Doherty gave Rearcross the
lead minutes later when he scored a cracking goal with a shot from thirty
yards. Rearcross were now in the driving seat and were unlucky not to have
increased their lead with good shots from Declan O'Toole and Tommy Ryan. Killavilla
stuck to their task well and grabbed an equaliser with four minutes remaining
to take the tie to extra time. Both sides were deadlocked during extra time
and it looked as if the outcome was going to be decided on a penalty shootout,
however disaster struck for the home side with seconds remaining when Killavilla
pounced to score the winner much to the disappointment of a Rearcross side
that played their hearts out on the day.
