Rearcross U-14’s were at home to Kinnity Rovers in this league fixture
and recorded a hard fought 2-1 victory over the Offaly side, the game started
at a fast pace with Kinnity coming close in the 10th minute. Rearcross were
unlucky minutes later when Jamie Ryan’s shot was blocked following a
great run from midfield. Kinnity got on top at this stage and Jim Caplis had
to be at his best between the posts to keep the visitors at bay. Pa ogan
also came to the rescue when he cleared off the line following a goalmouth
scramble midway through the half. Rearcross made a strong finish to the half
and were denied when Jamie Ryan’s chip was cleared by the Kinnity defence
in the 28th minute. Paddy Wade gave Rearcross the lead with five minutes remaining
in the half following great work by Jamie Ryan and Damien Nolan. Kinnity grabbed
an equaliser against the run of play a minute before the half time whistle
with an opportunist goal. Michael O’Gorman restored the lead for Rearcross
five minutes into the second half with a fine strike from inside the box.
Rearcross had chances to extend their lead with Paddy Wade’s attempt
not far of target midway through the half. The Rearcross rearguard had to
withstand a period of sustained pressure towards the end of the game but some
staunch defending by Rearcross secured the victory. Rearcross were well served
on the day by Paul Hogan, Tom Hickey and James Gough.
