Newport Town 1 - Cormacstown Rovers 6
Cormacstown were fast out of the traps on this occasion and left Newport with an uphill battle after a dynamic start that saw Robbie Jordan open the scoring in the 3rd minute with a deft finish from in front of goal, John King made it two nil minutes later when the ball was worked well on the left flank, Newport were slow to react and were duly punished as the net shook for the second time, Mark Barry came to rescue for the Newport side in the 9th minute when a goal looked certain. Cormacstwon meant business and extended their lead in the 15th minute when Robbie Jorban was again on target with a cleverly worked goal. Newport re-shaped and made some incursions in to Cormacstown territory, and weren't far off with efforts from John O'Mahony & Steven Carroll, Newport pulled a goal back in the 37th minute when PJ O'Rourke made space inside the area and drove past a faultless Shane Lanigan. Newport needed to hold on until the half way stage, however a rampant Cormacstown side had restored their advantage in a matter on minutes when John King was again the marksman with a well taken goal. Newport came out in the second half with a three goal deficit and it proved too difficult a hurdle to overcome as Cormacstown made all the running and tacked on goal number five when John King scored his third with a skilful finish, Newport kept battling, however there was no way through a stern Cormacstown rearguard, Mark Barry in the Newport goal had a busy day throughout and made some excellent saves in the second half in a display that copper fastened his Player of the Tournament accolade, John King had the last say as he notched up his fourth of the day late in the game with a top drawer finish.
