Rearcross
U-14's 1 - Puckane United 2
A depleted Rearcross U-14 side went under to Puckane last Sunday
afternoon in Rearcross on a 2-1 scoreline, Rearcross got off to a flying start
when Mark Hogan scored with a splendid strike from outside the eighteen yard
box, Puckane equalised in the 15th minute after Rearcross struggled to clear
a corner kick and were punished accordingly by James McLoughney who drove
home. Both sides had their fair share of chances for the remainder of the
half with Harry Williams and Cormac Nolan threatening midway through the half,
James Gough made a fine run from midfield towards the end of the half with
the resulting effort not far off the mark. The second half was a closely fought
encounter with Cormac Nolan unlucky not to give Rearcross the lead five minutes
in when his effort from the right struck the crossbar. Jim Calpis did well
to save from a one on one five minutes later. Michael O'Gorman set up Mark
Hogan midway through the half with the resulting shot finishing in the side
netting. Both teams went all out for the winner and it was Puckane who prevailed
when a quick clearance out of the Puckane defence caught the Rearcross rearguard
by surprise and Fergal Hayes stole the points for the visitors with only a
minute left on the stopwatch. Our thanks to Puckane for their cooperation
in rescheduling this fixture.
