Late goal leaves league loss for Rearcross ‘B’

Rearcross welcomed Moneygall on Friday night for their 3rd game of the league. It was Moneygall who started the brighter for the opening 10 minutes of the game and they looked dangerous in attack. After this Rea settled into the game and created all the chances. Rea hit the front on the 10-minute mark when a long clearance from Brian Hammersley saw the ball loop in over the Moneygall defence and the onrushing Oisin Kelly rounded the keeper and finished to the net. With their tails up, it was soon 2 nil to Rearcross. Some good interchange play from Max Carroll and Oisin Kelly on the right wing saw Oisin Kelly cross the ball into Paul Carey whose 1st time volley flew into the corner of the net. Rearcross had several chances to make it 3 nil with both Max Carroll, Eamon Wade and Oisin Kelly coming close but for the keeper to deny them, Eamon Wade’s volley from a corner scraping the outside of the post. Moneygall clawed their way back into the tie just before halftime when a long-range free kick from Damien Coonan found its way straight to the net.
Rearcross started the 2nd half brightly and had numerous chances to kill of the game. Oisin Kelly was unlucky not to double his tally as he had a couple of one on ones but he was denied by the keeper, Max Carroll who was having good joy on the right wing was also unlucky not to add a third some last ditch defending from Moneygall saw them clear off the line. Rearcross were left to rue all their missed chances as a defensive mix up allowed Moneygall to equalise with Kevin O Grady finishing to the net. With 25 minutes remaining both sides had a go at trying to win the game with subs making an impact. Rearcross had the first chance to make it 3-2 when a through ball from Rob Harrington saw Colm Carey in behind the defence and his strike clipped the outside of the post and went wide. With the final kick off the game Moneygall snatched victory. A long clearance from their keeper saw the ball fall to Anthony Devereux who finished to the roof of the net with a clinical strike. Another tough defeat for Rearcross to take.
