Rearcross ‘B’ lose 4-2 away to Templetuohy

Rearcross ‘B’ travelled away to Templetuohy on Sunday morning with the hopes of making it a second league win in a row. Although Rea were missing a few regular starters they still started the game on the front foot, taking the lead about 5 minutes into the fixture when a Paul Ryan strike from range caught the Templetuohy goalkeeper off guard and found its way into the back of the net. This was followed by some nice passages of play from Rearcross with Gary Ryan and Oisín Kelly in midfield at the fore. The solid defensive partnership of Paul Carey and Eamonn Wade helped to keep the home side at bay for the most of the first half. However, Templetuohy managed to grab their first of the day right on stroke of half time as Sean Gleeson found himself enough space in the Rearcross box to slot coolly into the side of the net.
The second half was a completely different affair as it was the home side who took complete control of the game. Templetuohy went ahead two minutes into the half for the first time in the game when Finbarr Ryan pounced on a Rearcross defensive error. This set the tone for the rest of the second half as Rea really struggled to regain a foothold in the game. The home side added a third after 59 minutes with a great finish from Stephen Troy into the top corner. Playing against a very strong wind made it a challenge for Rearcross to provide any real threat to the Templetuohy goal. Substitute Christopher Murphy put Templetuohy three ahead when he went one on one with Brian Hammersley in the Rearcross goal. However, Gary Ryan’s hard work did pay off when he grabbed a consolation goal for Rea with a good strike into the top corner from just inside the box. A disappointing outing for Rearcross ‘B’ with the focus now turning to next week’s home game vs Killavilla ‘B’.
