Rearcross U-14 Boys win by the odd goal in three

Rearcross U-14 Boys played host to Ballymackey FC in this league tie played at Rearcross FC Grounds and came out of top by the odd goal in three. The Slieve Felim side made a bright start and with the first incision when Ciaran McLoughlin linked up with Conor Nolan but the visiting custodian was equal to the effort. Next up was Adam Butler who fired on target but Ballymackey’s E O’Shea made the save. The Ballinree outfit got on top but staunch defensive play from Andrew Hanly, Darragh Reynolds, Conor McInerney and Paudie Clifford kept the scoreline intact. Rea hit the front on six minutes when good play by Cathal Hickey and Ciaran McLoughlin saw Darragh Reynolds find Conor Nolan who finished with aplomb. The hosts continued to press with Sean Guidera and Cathal Moloney dictating on the flanks. It was two nil on nine minutes after Conor Nolan netted his second of the day thanks to an assist from Conor McInerney. It was end to end for the remainder of the half as Rearcross went in at half time with a 2-nil lead.
The resolve of the Rea boys was well tested in the second half as Ballymackey upped the ante, Rearcross keeper Leon Wallace was very much in the action to keep his side in the game with some fine goalkeeping. The incessant pressure paid off for the away team after C Hackett brought it back to the minimum in the 43rd minute. Rearcross showed their mettle for the remainder of the half with Patrick Hanly and Noah Brett coming off the bench to replace tired legs and both players made worthy contributions to ensure Rearcross emerged with a gallant victory on the day.
