Hard earned point on the road for Rearcross 'B'

Rearcross were on the road again in the league as they were the visitors to Ballymackey for the Sunday morning clash. Conditions were not ideal for either team as both sets of players struggled at times to keep their feet. It was Ballymackey who created the 1st chance of the game when a cross was swung in from the right-hand side and J Kenneally got above his marker but his glancing header hit the post and went out for a goal kick. Rea seemed to settle after this and despite having a lot of possession their final pass or wayward shooting were letting them down. The best chance falling to Rob Harrington in the 1st half when he found himself unmarked from a corner but didn't get the required connection from a header. On the stroke of halftime Brian Hammersley ensured the scoreline remained at 1 nil when he pulled off a great save. At the start of the 2nd half Brian was called into action again when Scott Grey unleashed a superb half volley from outside the box which seemed destined for the corner of the net only for Brian to tip it around the post. Rea created the next few chances with Mikey Feehan coming close on 2 separate occasions. The 1st chance came when Mikey Feehan collected the ball near the left wing and drove towards goal and from outside the box, he hit a great strike which bounced back off the bar. Moments later Donnie O’Brien swung in a corner from the right and Mikey Feehan climbed highest but his glancing header hit the bottom of the post and was turned out for another corner. In the dying embers of the game Rea had 2 freekicks in good areas but they failed to hit the target. Ballymackey nearly took all 3 points in injury time when a freekick found its way to the back post and just as the ball seemed destined for the net, Donnie O Brien came out of nowhere to get a great block in. Nil all was how it finished.
