Rearcross U-14 Girls lose out on penalties following 2-2 draw

Rearcross U14 girls hosted Lough Derg U14 girls in the first round of a new North Tipperary style Champions League competition on Wednesday evening last Sept 3rd. This was a really competitive encounter, with both teams having moments of dominance. Lough Derg who have been operating in a division above the Rearcross girls had the early chances and duly scored 2 in the first half, one from play and one from the penalty spot despite the best efforts of Aoibheann Devitt in the Rearcross goals. Rearcross had their chances in this opening half with our defence on top dealing with Lough Derg attacks and counter attacking with Zofia Kwiecinska and Kate Kennedy coming close.
Rearcross re jigged the line up in the second half with Aoibheann Devitt showing her versatility, moving from goalkeeper to centre half seamlessly, allowing Lauren Hartnett to move to full back where she moved effortlessly up and down the right flank, combining to great effect with Zara Maher. Anna Butler performed brilliantly at right full throughout the game, making last ditch tackles and clearing her lines on numerous occasions. Chloe Quinlan, Ruth Johnson and Ewa Kwiecinska also performed well on the night. Kate Kennedy moved to centre of midfield with Zofia going to her favoured centre forward position, where she caused endless trouble for the Lough Derg rearguard. The Rearcross attack were rewarded in the second half with two well taken goals by Zofia after great work by the whole Rearcross team. Rearcross dominated the second half and were unlucky not to win on the night, all of our squad of girls togged, saw action on the night with many of this squad eligible for this grade for 2 more seasons.
