Slender one nil defeat for Rearcross Youths in Glenbane

Rearcross Youths trekked to Glenbane for this Youths League fixture and turned in a creditable performance before losing out on a slender one nil scoreline. The blustery conditions detracted from the game somewhat but Rearcross were fast out of the traps and came close when Paddy Ryan’s effort flew over the bar. Rearcross enjoyed more than their fair share of chances in the open half with Cathal Ryan, Jack Nolan and Sam Hackett all going close. The hosts got in for what proved to be the all-important goal in the 20th minute when Sean Butler hit the target. Rearcross kept the pressure on towards the end of the half and Jack Nolan was unlucky to see his effort go just wide. The visitors were dealt a blow when Oisin Reynolds had to depart the fray following an injury but new signing Ryan Amodeo made his debut and turned in a fine performance.
It was proving to be a luckless outing for the Slieve Felim side as it was more of the same in the second half as Rea enjoyed the lion’s share of possession with Seanie Quinlan linking up with Cathal Ryan but the Holycross custodian made a fine save and then thwarted Jack Nolan and Cathal Ryan later in the half with two more top drawer saves. Rearcross had defended stoutly from start to finish but it wasn’t to be on this occasion in a game that the away side deserved more for their efforts.
