Spirited display by Rearcross U-13's in League opener

Rearcross U13 girls played Nenagh Celtic in our first league game of the new 23/24 season on Saturday last September 9th in Rearcross. On a beautiful morning for football, Rearcross settled the fastest and began to pass the ball around, finding green shirts and pressing the Nenagh Celtic defence trying to find an opening. Our back four of Zofia Wieciensika, Lauren Hartnett, Shauna Carr and Maria Carr repelled any Nenagh attacks and stylishly counter attacked, bringing the ball into the Opposition half time after time. Nenagh Celtic brought a big squad to Rearcross and scored a breakaway goal on the 12th minute that Kate Kennedy was powerless to prevent in the Rearcross goals. With it been such a hot morning, water breaks were used every 15 minutes. Rearcross came out after the water break and Saoirse Guidera had a couple of 1 on 1 chances with the Nenagh Celtic keeper who done well to deny her. Rearcross had numerous chances throughout the game and Nenagh can thank their goalkeeper for many good saves with efforts from Abbie Carroll, Ruth Johnson and Saoirse Guidera bringing good saves from the Nenagh goalkeeper. Nenagh were clinical in front of goals and added 3 more as Rearcross pushed up the field and left gaps at the back . The scoreline doesn't accurately reflect this game, Rearcross as mentioned had several one on one opportunities in front of the Nenagh goal and were unlucky not to score. All girls gave a good account of themselves and are looking forward to the season ahead. We are missing 1 or 2 players with injuries also at the minute and hopefully they will be back in action soon. Also 2 of our younger players made their debuts on Saturday, Ava Wieciensika and Eve Richardson and they both have 3 years to get accustomed to U13 level.
